1- The first topic has Shmuel relating to his friend\u2019s son, Rav Chiya the son of Rav on the proper way to bow down and straighten up during\u00a0 \u05e9\u05de\u05d5\u05e0\u05d4 \u05e2\u05e9\u05e8\u05d4, as he, Shmuel heard it from Rav himself.<\/p>\n

Rav is actually a hybrid, being both \u05ea\u05e0\u05d0 and \u05d0\u05de\u05d5\u05e8\u05d0.<\/p>\n

2 – We related the story of Reb Yochanan who lived in Israel and was a contemporary of Shumel and Rav.<\/p>\n
Here is the story from Chulin 95b<\/a>.<\/p>\n
During all the years<\/strong> when Rav<\/strong> lived in Babylonia, Rabbi Yo\u1e25anan,<\/strong> who lived in Eretz Yisrael, would write to him<\/strong> and begin with the greeting: To our Master who is in Babylonia. When<\/strong> Rav died,<\/strong> Rabbi Yo\u1e25anan would write to Shmuel<\/strong> and begin with the greeting: To our colleague who is in Babylonia.<\/strong> <\/em><\/p>\n
Shmuel said: Does<\/strong> Rabbi Yo\u1e25anan not know<\/strong> any matter in which I am his master?<\/strong> Shmuel wrote<\/strong> and sent to<\/strong> Rabbi Yo\u1e25anan the calculation of the leap<\/strong> years for<\/strong> the next sixty years.<\/strong> Rabbi Yo\u1e25anan was not impressed by this and said: Now he<\/strong> has merely<\/strong> demonstrated that he knows mathematics,<\/strong> which does not make him my master.<\/em><\/p>\n
Shmuel then wrote<\/strong> and sent to<\/strong> Rabbi Yo\u1e25anan explications of uncertainties<\/strong> pertaining to tereifot<\/strong> that had to be transported on thirteen camels.<\/strong> Rabbi Yo\u1e25anan was impressed by this and said: I have a Master in Babylonia; I will go and see him.<\/strong> <\/em><\/p>\n
Before departing on his journey, Rabbi Yo\u1e25anan said to a child: Recite to me your verse<\/strong> that you studied today. The child recited<\/strong> the following verse to<\/strong> Rabbi Yo\u1e25anan: \u201cNow Samuel was dead\u201d<\/strong> (<\/em>I Samuel 28:3<\/em><\/a>). Rabbi Yo\u1e25anan said<\/strong> to himself: Learn from this<\/strong> that Shmuel has died.<\/strong> Therefore, Rabbi Yo\u1e25anan did not go to see Shmuel.<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n3 – In relation to the previous Shiurim about \u05d1\u05e8\u05db\u05d5\u05ea we touched on the topic of \u2018do \u05d1\u05e8\u05db\u05d5\u05ea change with the times\u2019? Many \u05d1\u05e8\u05db\u05d5\u05ea are based on the \u2018norm\u2019, meaning that most people eat it in a particular fashion, like cooked or raw.<\/p>\n
What happens if the \u2018norm\u2019 changes? Eating habits evolve, like who ate raw fish in the USA prior to 1985 when Sushi was introduced?<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n“…and so the pilgrims turned around and went home.”<\/em><\/p>\n
We mentioned that Reb Zalman Shimon Dvorkin’\u2019s opinion was to make a \u05e9\u05d4\u05db\u05dc when eating raw carrots.<\/p>\n
Why? Because that is the\u00a0 \u05d4\u05dc\u05db\u05d4 as per the \u05e9\u05dc\u05d7\u05df<\/a> \u05e2\u05e8\u05d5\u05da<\/a>! The \u2018norm\u2019 at that time was that most carrots were consumed only after they were cooked.<\/p>\n

However, the average person today makes a \u05d4\u05d0\u05d3\u05de\u05d4 on raw carrots because eating raw carrots is the norm today.<\/p>\n
4- This leads to an even larger issue. After we wash for bread, we do not say a \u05d1\u05e8\u05db\u05d4 on whatever is served. Such as fish, meat and soup.<\/p>\n
The reason being is \u2018these items are served because <\/u><\/em><\/strong>they are part of the meal’. Meaning, that the \u2018norm\u2019 is to eat these food items only after washing for bread, thus the \u05d4\u05de\u05d5\u05e6\u05d9\u05d0 applies on what follows.<\/p>\n

Today the entire idea of washing to eat fish or meat hardly exists. Soup in consumed not necessarily while eating a \u05e1\u05e2\u05d5\u05d3\u05d4. We nibble on slices of cheese, we eat French fries all the time.<\/p>\n
So why do we not make a \u05d1\u05e8\u05db\u05d4 on them when eating these items during a \u05e1\u05e2\u05d5\u05d3\u05d4?<\/p>\n
